The client desired an engineered Oak floor that was responsibly sourced and had full FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) chain of custody. The floor also had to be extremely resilient due to the high amount of traffic that the flooring would face. After careful consideration and research, we worked with SODA to develop the perfect solution: a smooth Oak floor with a Snow UV Oil finish called TW-E118. This flooring retained the grain patterns and texture of the natural white oak, it was then coloured and UV oiled to increase the resilience of the finish. This process not only enabled us to meet the requirement of a hardwearing finish but also kept made ongoing maintenance easy. The project took a team of four fitters from Gravity Flooring a total of five days to install.
We were delighted by the design by SODA, which took the historic context of the Square as inspiration for the renovation, incorporating an appropriate design language into spatial layouts and contemporary details. Natural oak features throughout the project, and SODA worked with the Solid Wood Flooring Company to achieve a colour and finish of oak floor to compliment the bespoke joinery and finishes. The engineered oak flooring ties together all these timber elements, bringing warmth to the generous lounge, offices and meeting rooms. The success of this project is in the close working relationship with The Solid Wood Flooring Company who helped the architects by designing a product that could meet their design ambitions and physical demands of the grand entrance space at Thomas House.
